Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby.

Even though babies are alike in many ways, each is also very different from all others. Your baby is very special to you – and very special to us. The miracle of birth and growth is a fulfilling and wonderful expreience. Thank you for selecting us to share it with you and your child.

If this is your first child, you will quickly gain the experience and confidence necessary to care for your child. All new parents are a bit anxious with a new infant at home, but everyone becomes more at ease with time, experience and advice. Family members and acquaintances will be ready to provide all sorts of advice. No two babies are alike. Your child is an individual from the day he is born. Remember that your parental instincts and common sense are usually appropriate and correct. We are available to answer any questions, regardless of how seemingly insignificant and hope that you will call when you feel it necessary. There is no right or wrong way for all babies in all situations. You should establish flexibility in your daily routine whether it be feeding schedules and quantities, play periods or sleep schedules. These may vary from day to day or week to week. Your baby is dependent on you for many things, but it is important to establish some independence for your infant – allowing him to “work things out” by himself when it seems necessary. There are also times when you need to reestablish your independence. Take a break; get a sitter and go out for a while.

If your baby is born at one of the hospitals where our physicians have privileges, you will probably see several of the doctors in our practice. Since we share call, we encourage all parents to get to know each of us. When you arrive home, please call our office to make an appointment for an office visit after your baby’s hospital discharge. We will advise you when you leave the hospital about the appropriate timing for this appointment. Your infant’s first routine checkup will be at one month of age.

There are so many things to do now that your baby is here. It is easy to forget that you only have 30 days from birth to add your child to your insurance policy. Call the phone number on your insurance card for instructions on how to enroll your baby with your plan. If you are required to choose a Primary Care Physician be sure to name one from our group. We need a copy of a valid insurance card for your baby so we can file your claims. Call our Billing Office at (804)288-9190 if you have any questions but remember, we can’t file without this information.
